Materia Odorata

Atmosphere Scents

*

Each scent is offered as a Volume:

a small-batch composition handmade in monasteries, intended to be released slowly through the art objects found in the

Maria de Mangop Collection.

*

Ritual

Apply a few drops on the art object, place the object in stillness, and let air do the rest: warmth, time, and movement become the diffusion.

Layering is a consequence.

Volume I-XII

VOLUME I — Aqua Athonita

A water-based composition built around Holy Water: mineral clarity, cold stone, and a breath of chapel air.
Notes: holy water accord, pale incense, limestone, clean musk

VOLUME II — Flos Deserti

A luminous floral held in dryness: sunlit petals, soft spice, and the sensation of sharp heat.
Notes: desert flower, saffron nuance, warm resin, skin musk

VOLUME III — Herba Monachorum

A green doctrine of medicinal plants: crushed leaves, monastery tinctures, and the first light of morning.
Notes: medicinal herbs, bitter greens, wild stems, herbal balm

VOLUME IV — Myrrha Vetus

Myrrh from Mount Athos, aged in shadow: intimate, resinous, and quietly golden against the air.
Notes: myrrh, dry woods, ambered resin, smoked sweetness

VOLUME V — Incensum Nox

Incense at its darkest register: slow-burning, architectural, and deep as a sealed altar after dusk.
Notes: frankincense, charred wood, black resin, nocturnal spice

VOLUME VI — Balmum Terrae

An earthy balm of roots and soil-warm herbs, like a remedy carried in cloth through time.
Notes: root tincture, damp earth, bitter resin, mossy warmth

VOLUME VII — Muscus Quietus

A fragrance of proximity: clean skin, softened air, and the hush of fabric in a silent room.
Notes: gentle musk, powdery woods, pale incense, linen accord

VOLUME VIII — Rosa Obscura

A rose without ornament: darkened petals, herbal edges, and a restrained sweetness that never asks for attention.
Notes: monastery rose, dried leaves, resin trace, soft spice

VOLUME IX — Vinum Resinatum

Resin steeped into warmth: spiced darkness, lacquered depth, and a trace of sweetness like old varnish.
Notes: amber resin, clove nuance, balsamic wood, dark honey

VOLUME X — Fumus Aureus

A gold smoke composition: frankincense ash, glowing resins, and the slow tempo of ritual made visible.
Notes: incense smoke, warm resin, waxed wood, mineral air

VOLUME XI — Nardus Silens

Wild monastery flowers gathered at the edge of silence: airy, herbal, and quietly radiant.
Notes: wild florals, green nectar, soft balm, pale musk

VOLUME XII — Sanctum Hiemis

Winter distilled into a relic: waxed wood, clean cold air, and the last warmth held inside stone.
Notes: cold incense, dry timber, beeswax nuance, mineral musk
