Maria de Mangop
is an artistic practice where
art history meets ancient fragrance.
Here, time is treated as a living substance.
Each art object is a way of being.

Our world
The atmospheric collections bring together sculptural fragments and deeply aromatic materials to explore the quiet ritualic intersections between matter, memory and breath.
*
Drawing from archaeological forms and monastic practices, the art objects become domestic symbols of power and intimacy.
*
Each object carries traces of time. Erosion, patina, while being active through scent.
*
The fragrances are created with ingredients from Romanian and Athos monasteries and are impregnated into the art objects. They are absorbed by stone and paper, held within vessels, released through air and movement.
*
The objects are intermediaries between the tangible and the ephemeral, recalling devotional gestures and the human impulse to preserve meaning within material form.
*
Neither the objects nor the scents represent a time. Instead, they allow the present to circulate.
